Harvest Rest pt. 2

Cease from your labours! Stop and let the Spirit swallow you up. Let the heavy weight of His Glory fall on you. I am going to describe an encounter with God I had recently while I was with my family.

My family and I were in Leeds in a place called Lotherton Hall. Its an old stately house with lovely grounds you can walk around near Leeds. We drove up and parked, overlooking the banquenting tent of a wedding. Instantly the weighty Glory of God filled the car and my wife and I were pulled into a trance while we sat there. The Spirit opened up to me and I could see angels approaching the car, they were gathering round and then I was like “angels are great, but wheres Jesus?” They stepped back to reveal a lion standing behind them. I knew it was the Lion of Judah.

As this happened I was lifted up above the car and I could actually look down on the car from where I was now standing. The Lord took me to a field of corn. I was surrounded by sheaves of corn and I began to walk through them. I realised I was standing in the Harvest Field of salvation and understood that each corn represented someone’s life. I took a sheave of corn and had a complete download about a particular girl’s life- the broken relationship with her dad that caused destruction and abuse, the redemption that came to her life as she met Jesus and then the restoration of her life through worship. I believe that I will meet this person at some point.

Jesus then began to speak to me about the story where He and His disciples pick corn as they walk through a corn field on the Sabbath. The disciples are accused of breaking the law but Jesus rebukes the pharasees and defends their innocence. What was the accusation? That they were doing a job, work and labour on the Sabbath day instead of entering the rest of the Sabbath, and this was breaking one of the 10 Commandments. But Jesus could not break the law because He is perfect – infact he is the fulfillment of the law. He was not breaking the law because He walks in the Sabbath rest; He is Lord of the Sabbath. He rests in completion. In Him IS rest. He has brought us into union.

I sensed that this story is a prophetic picture of the End Time Harvest- it will be reaped in a Sabbath rest. In this account in Matt 12 Jesus says “I desire Mercy” or “I will have Mercy”. I believe we are coming into the greatest Harvest that the Church has ever known, a world wide reaping as a Holy Revelation of God’s Mercy engulfs the globe and people respond in faith to what Christ has done. What is the Sabbath rest about? Mercy.

The universe has entered into the Sabbath Rest- Hebrews 4 describes this- its a pretty sweet state of affairs. God entered into rest on the seventh day- Seven in Hebrew is the numer for Completion and Perfection- and that is was Jesus meant when He said “IT IS FINISHED!!!” Mercy has come.

Jesus showed me that everything that we think He does, is actually a manifestation of His Finished Work. He ‘does’ all these things in rest because He cannot break the law – He fulfills it! Therefore the harvest, all moves of the Spirit, revival, healings,  all things that we ‘do’ in Christ, if it is truly IN CHRIST, is done from Rest. It has to be done from Rest otherwise it has no part with Christ. Christ has ceased from His labours and there is no more work and labour for him, it is actually impossible for Him to DO more for us because He would be breaking the law! He has done it all and is at rest. That is why we can rest and cease from our labours in Mercy.

True rest is not apathetic or lazy. It is a mindset and reality of victory in His Presence that bubbles up in Mercy; whether in healing, salvation, a business plan, economic policy or reformation- His Finished Work invades our life. The Heavens are open over your life, you are seated in Heavenly places.  Let His Presence rise up and enter into His Rest and His Mercy.

While I had this encounter with the Lion of Judah and the Harvest Field in the car my daughter was asleep in the back. The following week we realised she had learned a new trick- roaring!

The Finished Work manifested in our lives over the next few months after this encounter. I saw an increase in healings in my work place, it became so much easier to see healing- on one occasion I felt a gift of faith rise up and I knew everyone I prayer for would be healed in that moment. I saw nine healings in one go with one simple prayer. Over the course of two weeks, at the beginning of the Summer, I saw 35 people respond to the Gospel. One person at work even had a powerful and very real encounter with Christ in a dream!

We decreed an end to the drought a few months before the Summer as a sign that we are not in the wilderness, longing for some far off move of the Spirit but are seated in Heavenly places in Christ – Eden, that we are walking in an Open Heaven. We decreed that the Heavens are open over the UK and God has surprised us with amazing things! In Eden there is fruit: miracles, healings, salvations, angels, the cloud of witnesses and much more! I will be sharing about some of these encounters over the next few posts.

I’m so greatful we don’t need to strive for ‘revival’. Sometimes we can end up competing with other churches and christians for it. We are not looking for a revival to happen in the future at some point because we know that we are the wave, we are revival, we are the awakening NOW! Because we are seated in Christ, the Champion! God has made you a walking catalyst for breakthrough all the time, where ever you are NOW!

I thought that this was pretty amazing: A diamond manifested in our bed a few months ago. If this is not a sign of the Kingdom coming through rest then I don’t know what is!

Harvest Rest pt. 1

Hebrews 4 talks about entering God’s rest; that the children of God can enter His rest by faith. Its amazing how many times i’ve heard multi gold medalist Steve Redgrave talk about the importance of being relaxed and having a laid back attitude towards competing at the highest level in world sports during the Olympics. Stress doesn’t help and doesn’t produce good fruit. I’ve heard athletes being criticised for one thing in the last week: not being relaxed enough during their race. The thing that marks Usain Bolt out above the rest of his competitors is his position of rest, before and even during his race. His body relaxes and rests in a position of total dominance. When you are naturally the fastest person on the planet you don’t have to strive to win! Being yourself is enough!

I’m so glad the Gospel is the natural state of Victory. It is the declaration that you’ve already won! How many comparisons have there already been about Jessica Ennis’ last 800m race and the Gospel? She had already won the gold in the Heptathlon but had one last race to go. This race became 2 emotional victory laps surrounded by an ecstatic crowd of witnesses shouting and crying her on to the finish line. You know Christ died for us and as us? He won for us and as us. Its as if Christ entered and ran every other race in the Heptathlon for Jessica Ennis, won them all and then set her up to run the last 800m as Champion with the knowledge she was already victorious. The last race becomes the victory march!

Winnie Banov is often quoted as saying “the saints were home before they started!”. Do you know you were forgiven before you were born? While we were dead in our sin Christ restored and seated us in Him (Col 2). We are seated in our destination and finishing line already- Christ. Religion says “work for me and i’ll bless you”, but Christ says “sit with me in the blessing.” Not just some, but every spiritual blessing possible! He has given us such an inheritance as Sons already, Heirs to the promise. We just need to open our eyes to the riches of it! When you realise you are a Son you don’t need to strive to achieve victory; you’re sat in it. Relax in Christ by faith. He achieved it all for you! There is so much rest in freedom. Freedom knowing that He poured out His life and gave you everything.

The orphan, not knowing his identity, tries to prove he has worth. So much striving and hard work goes into achieving greatness, proving he is someone. He runs around showing the world what he can accomplish and achieve and he builds a legacy to prove he has value. Orphans build Empires but the Kingdom of God comes through the Son. Adam ran away from his Father and endured a curse of hardship and labour. Jesus rested in His Father, His identity and His Father’s victory, even in death and established the Kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God is like treasure hidden in a field. A man goes out and sells everything to buy the field. Christ poured himself out and gave up everything to purchase you, the treasure, cursed in the ground (Gen 3.17). He purchased you and gave you everything while you were still dead in your sin. God found you, the treasure, while you were covered in dirt, lost in the earth. There is so much rest in knowing your true value and identity; An Heir to the Promise- you’re His treasure! Have faith that being yourself is enough- He gave up everything for it.
