What do you see?

what do you seeIt’s funny hearing people talk like “We need to bring the Kingdom of God into the secular world” or even “How can we build the Kingdom of God?!” Secular world? What’s that then? You are going to build God’s Kingdom for him? Good luck trying that! (Genesis 1.1 is a clue).

I am so grateful that wherever I go I am permanently surrounded by the Kingdom and Glory of God. He is everywhere, He is all around us. (Matt 3.2, Matt 10.7) Luke 17.21 says ‘The Kingdom of God is within you (in your hearts) and among (surrounding you).’ AMP

His Presence is part of every aspect of our lives, He has permanently invaded our world, it is not a new thing, He has always been here. He has fully entangled Himself within our created order and He doesn’t regret it. He is entwined within our lives and He knew what He was getting Himself into.

It’s not that God is here within creation, standing around feeling awkward. He has intermingled himself within the fabric of our humanity; flesh and blood. He became one with the substance of human skin and bone. God became man; the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

And since then our own humanity has become the gateway and window for Jesus Christ. We are the human tabernacles of His Glory. There is absolutely no separation between your life and Heaven. Your flesh radiates Glory.

How can we have a ‘normal’ perspective on life knowing this? We look as people who have died and become One with Christ; lifted up to a new perspective and brand new reality. We have been raised with Christ. He has seated us within the ecstatic worship and cosmic party of the Trinity; within the centre of Heavenly Bliss and Perfection, at the centre of union and intimacy with our Creator, surrounded and pressed in by angels. What a rave!

Get a free buzz from that reality and your perspective will permanently change. No longer can you have sight filled with the darkness of lack and unbelief, but a vision overcome with the light and fullness of Christ. Not your situation. God wants to permanently wreck your paradigm and shift your mindset from “almost done” to “It is finished.” Something happens to your sight when you believe. You go from being overwhelmed by the problems you see to being transfixed by the answer. You are filled with Christ and the Hope of Glory. It is a power that brings transformation.

It happened to Elisha’s servant (2 Kings 6.17) His eyes were opened to reality and it changed his perspective. Totally surrounded by Angels; it freaked him out.

The angels understand, they can see. In Isaiah 6.3 they declare ”the whole earth is full of His Glory!’, not one day but is… I seem to keep coming across people quoting Habakkuk 2.14 wrong saying things like “one day the Glory will cover the earth… can’t wait for that!” but that is not what it says. Habakkuk says ‘The Knowledge of the Glory will cover the earth.’ The whole earth is already filled with His Glory, but people just can’t see it yet! Again Isaiah 40.5 says that ‘the Glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together…’

The Celtic Saints saw the natural world as being shot through with the Glory, the sacred thread of His divinity weaving through everything. When you look at creation with faith you start to see the pattern and framework of the Kingdom of God surrounding it and embedded within it. You can see Jesus, you can recognise His Presence. Justice, Love and Peace sing out and suddenly you have access to a Presence which changes situations. You stop seeing the negative and start seeing the answer.

It is amazing that He made a spectacle of the imposed principalities of darkness; lack, chaos, disorder. There is the underlying hidden framework of the Kingdom of God which overcame through Jesus Christ that we have access to.

“Aww that’s nice and quaint. But totally naive and deluded.”

Haven’t you watched the news?

The world is full of issues! Syrian civil wars, natural tragedies, a refugee humanitarian crises… There is darkness where the revelation of this Glory that covers the earth is not known or seen. The Kingdom of God is obscured. But it is still there, hidden. Until you see it! Then you can access it, release it, flow with it.

Don’t respond to this darkness by boycotting Starbucks because they havn’t put snowflakes on their red cups. Religion is deluded and definitely has a skewed perspective on life. Obsessed by the Bible but denying its power? The darkness of religion doesn’t bring light to the darkness of the world!

When the religious leaders looked at Mary washing the feet of Jesus with perfume (Luke 7.38) they looked and saw a notorious sinner, shame, guilt and a waste of expensive perfume yet Jesus looked and saw true worship, He saw the Kingdom and Glory at work. He then flowed with it, releasing freedom; forgiveness, love, compassion which set her free. Religion looks with criticism, Jesus looks with compassion. And isn’t it interesting that the Pharisees looked and failed to see the Messiah yet the prostitute looked and saw her saviour?!

The Gospel has Power and is the answer to suffering. True prophecy doesn’t deny suffering or ignores it, but looks with faith and sees answers. God close, not far off, His Kingdom here, Compassion, love, kindness; His Glory all around us.  It will provide keys to unlock situations of hopelessness. Naturally or supernaturally; a physical healing or a business plan.

That’s why we are called to be ‘in’ the world, like yeast in dough, catalysts for change because we have a different perspective, a different revelation. We can get a different strategy, a solution that comes from a Heavenly perspective. A new idea, some new crazy plan that no one else has thought of that brings transformation by uncovering a different Kingdom.

Don’t try building the Kingdom, see that it is already here.

Love this prayer from St. Patrick:

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

Book review: Tales from the Couch by Dave Vaughan

20150804-221106-79866326.jpg

I as well as many others had been encouraging Dave to write a book about his experiences and the journey he has gone on for some time now. I was very excited when Dave finally finished writing this and it doesn’t disappoint! Dave writes about his journey over his life, warts and all. He doesn’t try to make it fit a theological framework but expresses his heart.

What hits you is his vulnerability and honesty. He is not trying to persuade you of some theological belief system. Indeed it would be wrong to try and make a formula out of the experiences that Dave shares about in his book. He would not want that either, Dave says in it that it’s his journey and no one else’s.

Recently I read something by Lester Sumrall about Smith Wigglesworth’s last few years alive. He described how Smith’s ministry was not palatable, was offensive to many, was misunderstood even. Many found Smith too extreme to handle. At the time he was living, very few in the UK honoured him, forgetting the many dead raisings he had seen and the fact Smith had carried potentially the most powerful anointing to come out of the Uk in the last 100 years. What struck me about Smith’s life was the raw intensity of the Spirit that he carried, he didn’t fit the religious box, his ministry wasn’t polished, it didn’t have good PR. Despite all this he impacted the world. He was the real deal.

When reading Dave’s book you are struck by a level of rawness and reality. Dave has encountered God, he’s the real deal and his stories are not polished yet he has seen something. His book is an open doorway to encountering the
Glory to a greater degree.

We have a lot of good teaching out there, some great conferences but not many people who carry an ability to open the Body of Christ up to encounter God and bring people into a greater dimension of the Kingdom of God. That is what Dave carries and the spirit that is on his book. It has the ability to break open a new level of reality for you.

I love Dave’s honesty in his book. Sometimes too much of Christianity is about the party line and people are scared to really say what they think. Dave has never had this issue! You may not agree with all Dave says, I don’t! But that’s partly Dave’s point, he is on a journey as we all are, so go encounter God for yourself and have your own experiences. His book will definitely help open you up to a new level of encounter.

I think it does carry a spirit of reformation on it, challenging Christianity as a religion. But ultimately what you are left with is a sense of awe and wonder at a God who is bigger than we are and the religious boxes we try to fit Him in.

There’s so much more power in mystery than theology. I think that is what is at the crux of his book- mystery; mystery at a God who he has walked with over many years. You will walk away from reading it, scratching your head saying “did that really happen?” Tales from the Couch is honest, hilariously funny and filled with mystery.

Enjoy it and buy it here!

He First…

10435502_10152702714770883_2249176338273804488_nWe hear a lot about returning to our ‘first love’; the charge given to the Ephesians in Rev 2.4 – Remember the high point from which you have fallen… and I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to recapture something which we once had at some point in our life through our own efforts, to return to the ‘heights’ in our own strength.  Try, but it is possible you will end up getting more tired out, burned out, frustrated and filled with more condemnation that you can’t rediscover your ‘first love’ than you did before.

Instead be still and know that He is God. And when you reach that place of stillness the revelation that will hit you, is that He First loved you (1 John 4.19).

So let Him encounter you with His Love FIRST!

Our ‘first Love’ is that He first loved us!
He first adored you, He first knew you and has always known you (Jer 1.5).

The first thoughts about your life? His.

He first planned out your life, He first dreamed plans to prosper you and plans for your success (Jer 29.11).

The first moments of Hope for you?

There would be no you, unless He first Hoped that you would exist!

Delight yourself in the Lord? Guess what? He first delighted Himself in the very thought of you! And when He made you He wasn’t disappointed. (Zeph 3.17)

We love singing about lifting God up and enthroning Him. I’m sorry but…  before you ever sung one worship song ‘enthroning’ God, yes, He first lifted you up and enthroned you within the Heavens. (Ephesians 2.6)

Inviting God into your heart? You came from His.

He was first with you, before you were aware of Him.

Hang on a minute… you did first believe in Him. Kidding, He obviously first believed in you, and He gave that Faith to you as a gift! (1 Corin 12.9 + Galatians 3.23-25)

Shouting His name from the roof tops? He did that a while ago (Isaiah 43.1).

But we’ve got to empty ourselves in worship you say? Great, we can get our inspiration from Christ who first Emptied Himself and became nothing, so that you could be filled with fullness of the Godhead!! (Philippians 2.7 + Colossians 2.10)

Not only is He the First born of all creation and in Him were all things created BUT in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1.15-17). He’s got it under control so let go of anxiety and rest in His Sovereignty.

He IS the First and the Last! The Alpha and Omega; The beginning and the end. Let His First Love awaken your heart to love and let His Love lift you and carry you to the heights.

The Earthquakes of God

When Christ died, creation responded. An earthquake marked the beginning of a whole new era, the New Covenant. Everything shifted. Spiritual tectonic plates moved and the whole landscape changed. Mountains were laid low and valleys were raised at the death and resurrection of Christ. The Heavens were torn open and water gushed forth, the River of Life proceeding from the throne cascaded forth.

The death of Christ resonated right through to the depths of Hades and those who were dead were shaken out of their slumber and raised up with Christ. The dead were Awakened and seen in Jerusalem walking around. What a crazy and mystical thing! Christ’s New Covenant Earthquake shook the whole earth and has continued to turn the world upside down. Romans 8 says all of creation is groaning for the revelation of the Sons of God to hit. There is Power in the revelation of what Christ has done! What can stand in the way of the unrelenting power of an earthquake? Everything was ripped up in its path and eternal change ushered forth.

The revelation of the Finished Work of the Cross is an Earthquake- it shakes everything. The universe shifted and moved from one covenant to a whole new era. Like a Rhino on the rampage this revelation will not be stopped! Its a revelation that it has ALL BEEN DONE! Its the Might of God, the Manifestation of the OX on the loose, drunk on victory, plastered on Romans 8, tearing up the ground.

The revelation went out from Jerusalem to Europe, shook the Reformation, the Welsh and Hebridean Revivals, caused the Great Awakenings, brought the Pentecostal moves of the Spirit, the current Chinese Revival, and every dead raising miracle. Countless unknown saints who walked with God Shook their nations like earthquakes with the revelation of the risen Christ in their day. The revelation is still shaking things up today.

Certain things are being uncovered that have been hidden in the cracked and dry ground. Nationally God is revealing the intention of people’s hearts; when people have taught and said one thing but have hidden what has been really going on; their true intentions and true desires. It is so sad when someone who has taught on the Father’s heart for so long, leaves his wife and children for another woman. Hidden agendas are also being revealed. There is a broken system in the church here in the UK, discernment is lacking. There are leaders who quench the Spirit instead of leading revival, who bring so called ‘balance’ when breakthrough should be supported and let slander and unbelief masquerade as “concern”. Religion has pretended to be spiritual maturity and it is ending! It is coming to an end. There is a religious spirit that is being exposed in the church in the UK.

In Luther’s day the Church was in a mess. But God did not do anything new in the Reformation. It was simply the revelation of the Gospel, particularly Romans and the revelation we are His Sons, which brought a spiritual earthquake to the christianity of the time. It turned everything upside down. Everything changed. Strongholds and principalities came crashing down in the church when the revelation of simple verses rumbled throughout Europe. The Christian landscape changed forever.

A couple of years ago I had an open vision where God showed me an abortive mindset and spirit in operation. It worked away, trying to shut down the manifestation of the Spirit, coming along with accusation and slander. But how many people know that Good ‘ol Persecution works for you a Greater Glory! Whatever has been stopped will only grow in strength, authority and power! The Greater Glory! The revelation of the Finished Works of the Gospel is not going away! It has resonated out through the centuries, with the crushing revelation of victory: Jesus has been seated.

As the revelation of the Gospel hits and the earthquakes of Christ come ashaking, the Empire will be crushed under a weight of Glory. There are great changes that are coming to the Christian landscape of the UK. We are beginning to see another great Reformation. Many people are prophesying it and I believe it!

There is a changing of the guards happening and it will continue to a greater degree over the next 3 years in the UK. Romans 8.19 says creation groans for the Sons to be ‘made known’ and I believe that in 3 years time we will look back and see a whole new landscape in the church- new leaders emerging who will stand in real authority. A new generation of revivalists and leaders who honour the Presence above ALL else will be leading with authority. People and leaders who are currently marginalised because they honour the Presence first are about to take centre stage as the focus in the Church shifts.  The Sons of God are led by the Spirit and those who have been more intoxicated with the Spirit than titles, position and ministry will be honoured as Sons in the nation and raised up as leaders with great influence. The children of God will be ‘made known’ as the Glory is revealed in them. Great days ahead!
